iPhone-loving SoundDock Unveiled
IPhone owners rejoice!
Bose’s new and improved SoundDock Series II digital music system may now play your favorite tracks from your beloved mobile phone without the need to switch it to “airplane mode” (wireless features disabled).
And why, you may ask, is this significant? iPhone owners gloat over the fact that whenever they dock their mobile phone on the original SoundDock, they complain of an occasional “buzz” coming out of the speaker (technically, this is known as electromagnetic interference).
Another inconvenience cited is that, unlike when an iPod is docked, the iPhone will not charge.
“Thankfully, all these concerns have now been addressed as Bose engineers shielded both speakers and wiring on the SoundDock Series II from mobile phone interference, allowing you to use it without having to opt for an airplane mode as found in other devices that are not shielded,” said Wilson So, President of GM of Eleksis Marketing Corp., exclusive distributor of Bose products here in the Philippines.
Also, the SoundDock Series II now provides dock-and-play simplicity and charge both the original and 3G variants of the iPhone, as well as all existing iPod models while in use (no additional setup required), he added.
Measuring just 30.48 cm wide and 16.7 cm high, the SoundDock Series II is more compact that its predecessor and is in fact almost the size of SoundDock Portable.
Like the SoundDock Portable, the SoundDock Series II also has an auxiliary input (absent in the original) that lets one connect other audio devices, such as an MP3 player, portable CD player, or music-enabled phone.
“This means, even if you’re not an iPod fan, you can still take advantages of Bose audio acoustics when you attach a Microsoft Zune, Roxy Rio or any other portable audio source,” he said.
Another improvement is the SoundDock Series II remote which has the size of a credit card, which not only offers basic controls (power, volume control) but also allow you to performs track seek and iPhone/iPod playlist navigation from almost anywhere in the room.
“A number of out prospective buyers sometimes ask that, since they already have an earphone and even own a portable speaker, why would they need an audio device like the SoundDock Series II? Our usual response would be, they’re missing a lot of things,” said So.
He explained that compared to most portable speakers now in the market, SoundDock Series II’s larger enclosure power and speaker drivers, combined with AC power and more powerful amplifier, result in bigger, fuller sound.
“The SoundDock Series II represents a good compromise between size and sound quality as it plays louder, has deeper bass and clearer treble than most of its competitor,” he added.
Indeed, the SoundDock Series II is an excellent choice for any music enthusiast, particularly iPhone owners, who prefer to share their personal music collection with everyone else within earshot.
Buy it if: You love to share your iPhone/iPod with everyone else in your house or workplace and don’t mind the Php26,500 price tag.
Forget it if: You prefer a speaker that would also work away from an AC outlet because SoundDock Series II has no battery.
