Siaton Parish
- It is known as San Nicholas de Bari Parish Church – the church of the Catholics.
- The Name is taken from the Patron Saint of Siaton - St. Nicholas de Bari.
San Nicholas de Bari Parish Church is known as one of the oldest churches in Oriental Negros. The oldest church, though, is the Church in Bacong, Negros Oriental. The Parish church was developed during the Spanish regime in connection to the Spanish missions – to spread the Christianity.
San Nicholas de Bari Parish is lead by the Catholic Priests of the Diocese of Dumaguete in a form of team ministry; one will be the administrator of the Catholic School – Carmel High School. Since Siaton is quite a wide municipality, the ministry is usually consists of three Priests per term (reshuffling happens every four years).
At present, the church is actively managed by the local people led by the priests. Major church activities include New Year’s Eve and Christmas celebration or Advent Season, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, Holy Week or Lenten Season and Easter Sunday and all significant Celebrations in Roman Catholics’ Dogma.
Major Masses are usually celebrated on Sundays (usually three masses), as people from all over the town come to the downtown to pay homage to the Lord, afterwards, people take time to enjoy.
More and more churches are now built in the Municipality as evidence of Siaton’s dynamic changes in religion.
As strong as the church’s physical foundation, the doctrines and the religion of the local folks remain up to the present.
