Mar Roxas II, the running mate of President Noy-Noy Aquino claimed that he is a victim of widespread vote fraud and automated mysteries during the May 2010 Philippine Election. The defeated Liberal Party candidate contested the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to revoke the victory of his strong rival Jejomar Binay and declare him to be the vice president of the Philippines.

In the 102-paged electoral protest filed by his lawyers at the Supreme Court, which also stands as the tribunal which decides the protests in presidential and vice presidential races, Roxas challenges the victory of former Makati City mayor. Well, it is his discretion and right to file such protest especially that he feels being cheated.

What he asked is the manual recount of the three million votes for vice president that were not counted or considered null by the Commission on Election (Comelec). He cannot be blamed though, because it was the first ever automated polls in the Philippines. It seems that he just doesn’t trust the machines at all considering the fact that Binay had 700,000+ votes ahead of Roxas.

It is said that Roxas will have to spend about P7,000,000, or even more, for the manual recount covering all the areas with null votes.

Binay, however, is confident enough. JV Bautista, Binay’s lawyer, even said that Roxas has the right to file electoral protest. He added that if it was the null votes that he is counting on, then he should make himself ready to lose the second time.

Just today, the lawyers of Roxas paid P100,000 for the filing of the protest and deposited another P200,000 just to have the protest started.

Well, good luck to Mar Roxas!
