A New War between North Korea and South Korea Begins
SEOUL, South Korea – The people of Yeonpyeong Island were shaken as the North Korean artillery hit the island on Tuesday, the 22nd of November. Yeonpyeong is a South Korean island located near its border.
As reported earlier, the North Korean artillery fired the South Korean island with approximately a hundred and seventy artillery shells, causing the death of two civilians and two marines.
Apart from killing 4 people, the North Korean artillery attack also put both the island forests and houses on fire.
The Tuesday bombing also brought more casualties involving 18 others, which include three civilians who were wounded.
In response to the bombing initiated by the North, the South Korean military returned fire and threw over eighty shells toward North Korean artillery posts. This exchange of fire lasted for approximately an hour.
According to the officials, all South Korean troops are placed on maximum alert. Fighter jets were also deployed in the island to secure and lock the area.
In respond to the North Korean artillery attack towards the South Korean island, President Lee Myung-bak gave an order to the military to punish North Korea through action rather than words. He believed that in this manner, North Korea would stop mulling over additional aggravations. – with reports from Joseph Woelfel, TheStreetv
