Mexicans and Filipinos have one thing in common; they love sabong.

Although not everybody loves sabong, there are millions of people who are spending too much to raise derby cocks to ensure their win in derby matches. And these people are promoting such games so that sabong will be considered as a sport, at least, in the Philippines.

Prominent people and high-ranking government officials are often the promoters of derby in the Philippines. Moreover, there are small-time breeders who became successful in this line of business and became millionaires.

If you are one of derby enthusiasts, or just starting to like it, here are some practical tips on how to raise derby cocks and win;

Consider the Breed – if you are starting out to raise cocks, then you should consider the breed you are going to raise. You cannot just raise a stray cock and expect to win in any derby match. Not all of the cocks are as good as the ones being brought into the cockpit to fight, and not all of the fighting cocks are as good as the ones being trained and conditioned for derby.

The point is, you should have a good breed of fighting cock that you should raise for about two years to give you a good fight inside the cockpit.

If you have some friends who are raising fighting roosters, ask from them; here’s one thing you should know, most of the breeders have something to give to the new aspirants.

Consider the Place – one good thing about raising a fighting cock is that you don’t need a really spacious place especially if you are raising a rooster or two. You can raise it in your backyard, build a little shelter for it and watch it grow.

Consider the Food – just like human, the food plays a really great role in the development of the body and growth of the chicken. Giving it the right feeds and nutrition will ensure that it will grow fit and strong, and that’s what you need to ensure your win.

Consider the Age – younger derby cocks are most likely to lose to the older ones. Thus, you should always consider the age of your fighting cock before you set it into the pit to fight. The most appropriate age is two years with proper conditioning. Therefore, it is important you know the age of your fighting cock.

These tips are practical enough that subconsciously you may be doing it. However, without considering these tips you cannot expect to have a better chance in a fight. I may have lacked some things here, so, the best thing you can do is to ask a friend on how to properly raise a good derby cock. Therefore, if you know some people who may want to share their knowledge to you, they are the best people to ask questions from.
