Human Resources of Asia
Asia is not only the largest continent in the world but also the most thickly populated. It has more people per area and its population is increasing faster than any other continent. Asia has almost all of the primary racial groups of man and their ways of life are as varied as the places where they live.
The Main Racial Groups in Asia
The expansive continent of Asia is peopled by what can practically be divided into three great racial groups: Mongoloid, Caucasoid, and Negroid. It is therefore the home of the three species of Homo Sapiens.
Mongoloid
The Mongoloid people live in North Asia and in most of East Asia. Some have emigrated to the countries of Southeast Asia, too. Physically, they have dark hair and yellowish skin. They are related to the American Indians who are believed to have come to America by way of the Bering Strait 20,000 years ago.
Caucasoid
These people are related to the people of Europe. They are found in South Asia, Southwest Asia and in Siberia. Most of the Caucasoids in Europe were originally from Asia.
Negroid
These people are similar to the people living in Africa, south of the Sahara. Many of these people live on the islands of Southeast Asia. Pygmies called Negritos live in the Malaysia, the Philippines and on other islands in Southeast Asia.
There are representatives of these racial stocks in the various countries of Asia. Though people of mixed races are found all over Asia, the highest concentration of mestizos are in Southeast Asia.
The majority of the population in Asia originated from the Mongoloid race. Even in ancient times, some parts of Asia were already thickly populated. Probably China and India were already leaders at the onset of the historic period in matters of population. That headstart has resulted in the regional overpopulation of both countries. There are also other regions in Asia that have become too heavily populated in recent years.
