MANILA, Philippines – Today marks the end of the year 2010 and this day is a right day to reminisce the country’s most significant events per se the newsmakers of 2010. Included in the list are the renowned artists and personalities who made a tremendous buzz due to some startling controversies that involved their names.
Few of the Philippines’ top newsmakers in the year 2010 encompass Manny Pacquiao, Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Annabelle Rama, Willie Revillame, Kris Aquino, James Yap, Venus Raj, Charice and Manny Pangilinan, the owner of TV5.
Because of his tremendous victories in the fight against Joshua Clottey on March and Antonio Margarito on November, the name ‘Manny Pacquiao’ became present in the many headlines, in and out of the country. Apart from boxing, Pacquiao also succeeded in his political career, as he triumphantly entered the world of politics when he fulfilled his dream of becoming the House Representative of Sarangani province.
Conversely, Charice played a significant role as she became a cast member of the famous Glee show and continues to shine in her career as international singer.
Venus Raj also brought a big buzz to the Philippines when she successfully filled the 4th-runner up spot in the Miss Universe pageant. This is despite the issue of her dethronement as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe title holder. After she grabbed the 4th runner-up title in the worldwide beauty contest, Venus Raj became an instant celebrity when she came back to the country.
Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez also became 2010 newsmakers because of their wedding in Nasugbu, Batangas last December 22.
Ai ai Delas Alas and Dolphy also filled-in the showbiz headlines upon winning the best titles in the recently conducted MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival) top winners awards night. Winning the title as Best Actress is indeed a dream come true for Ai Ai with her Tanging Ina Mo Last na To film entry.
Same thing goes to Dolphy as he grabbed the Best Actor trophy in his movie entrant entitled Father Jejemon. It is actually a double victory for the comedy king because he too was awarded best supporting actor in Rosario.
Because of the issue with her talent Heart Evangelista Anabelle Rama also became a buzz in the Philippine showbiz industry. Her name became even droning when she and Kris Aquino had an issue on her daughter Ruffa Gutierrez.
Ruffa Gutierrez also became part of the controversy when she decided to moved to another network (TV5) and her confirmation regarding her special affair with the famous young actor John Lloyd Cruz.
Many people were also surprised when Willie Revillame made his official announcement of leaving his noontime show WOWOWEE in ABS-CBN, as he became the biggest recruit of the TV5 network. This is despite the contract that bound him to stay with ABS-CBN until 2011. This then forced the Kapamilya network to file a breaching of contract case against him.
The issue of Willie Revillame also involved the owner of TV5 network Manny Pangilinan. Shalani Soledad also became part of the controversy when she accepted Revillame’s offer to become a co-host in his most recent show at TV5 Willing Willie. Apart from this, Shalani’s previous relationship with the President also made her name a buzz.
The well-publicized split-up of the couple Kris Aquino and James Yap is also one of the most controversial issues in the Philippines, particularly in showbiz. The annulment case of the estranged couple is still on-going.
